What is Pelvic Physiotherapy?
The pelvic floor. Something everyone should learn about.

Pelvic Girdle Pain - Pain, burning or pressure in your pelvis, groin, buttock, hip, tailbone & lower back areas
Incontinence - Leakage of urine or feces with coughing, sneezing, laughing or exertion
Urgency - A strong urge to urinate or defecate (sometimes need to rush to the toilet worrying about leaking)
Urinary Frequency - Having to urinate so often that it disrupts your activities of daily living
Nocturia - Waking often to urinate at night
Constipation - Difficulty passing your stools
Pelvic Organ Prolapse - bulging, heaviness or pulling feeling inside the vagina
Painful Intercourse: pain or discomfort with penetration
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
During your first visit, your physiotherapist will discuss your history in detail to understand your problem. Based on this information, you and your physiotherapist will decide what's the best assessment technique(s) and create a personalized treatment plan to address your specific issues and guide your recovery. There may be an in-person physical exam or a virtual movement screening. Treatments may involve manual therapy, personalized exercises, self-management strategies, education, and more.
Your physiotherapist is specially trained and registered with the Ontario College of Physiotherapists to perform internal pelvic examinations.
Note: If you have extended health coverage for physiotherapy, pelvic physiotherapy sessions will be covered. No referral is needed to see a physiotherapist, but some insurance companies may require a physician’s referral for reimbursement.
If you have any pelvic health concerns that are preventing you from living your best life, schedule an appointment today!
